Chapadão — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 October 2026 · covers the iPhone and Android apps
Chapadão collects no personal information. No account, no login, no advertising, no tracking across apps or websites.
A few anonymous things do leave your phone so the app can work. They are all listed below.
What stays on your device
All of the following is written only to your own phone and never leaves it:
- Your session log: the spots, ratings and notes you record.
- Your tuned spot settings: any calibration you apply.
- Your passport and Enigma progress: the places you stamped and the stickers you found.
- Your preferences: reminder time, units, language.
- The cached forecast, so the app works without a connection.
Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Your location
If you allow it, the app reads your location on your phone only: to show walking times to places, and to check that you are standing at a place before it stamps your passport or counts an Enigma sticker. Your location is never sent to us or to anyone else. You can say no; everything else keeps working.
What leaves your device
Forecasts. The app asks our small server (a Cloudflare Worker at freddybuilds.workers.dev) for wave, wind and tide data, which it fetches from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com). The request names fixed coordinates in Pipa, never yours, and carries no identifier of you.
Places. To list restaurants, bars and things to do, the app asks the same server for places around fixed coordinates in the centre of Pipa. The results come from Google search results. No personal data is sent.
Enigma counts. When a riddle is shown, a sticker is scanned, or a stamp is earned, the app sends an anonymous event: what happened, the sticker number, the time, and a random ID created on your phone. That ID is not linked to your name, your device, or your Apple or Google account. We use these counts only to see how many people get stuck on each riddle. Deleting the app deletes the random ID.
Purchases. Chapadão Pro is bought through the App Store or Google Play. RevenueCat (revenuecat.com) checks the purchase receipt, together with an anonymous app user ID, to confirm that Pro is unlocked. We never see your name or payment details.
Maps open in a separate app when you tap a place; anything you do there is governed by that app's privacy policy.
Everything above is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). None of it is sold or shared for advertising.
Children
Chapadão is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Your rights
The little data we receive is anonymous, so we cannot link it to you. Under the LGPD (Brazil) and the GDPR (EU), you can still write to us with any question or request, and we will answer.
Safety
Chapadão is a forecast tool, not a safety device. Surf forecasts are model estimates and can be wrong. Always look at the ocean yourself, know your own limits, and never rely on this app alone when deciding to enter the water.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new date at the top.
